Avery is a college sophomore earning her B.S. in Biological Sciences at the University of Denver with minors in Chemistry and Psychology. Avery is a member of the University of Denver honors program. On campus, she works as an emergency medical technician and a research assistant studying unhoused youth with pets. She also volunteers as a care coordinator for a free medical clinic in Aurora, Colorado. Post-undergraduate, Avery aspires to attend medical school and become a physician. She loves to ski, rock climb, hike, and ride horses in her free time.
Lola is a college sophomore at UC Davis. Lola is currently earing her B.S. in Managerial Economics with a minor in Philosophy and Sociology while riding on her school's Division I Equestrian team. Post-undergraduate, she will attend law school where she will focus on family law with aspirations to become a family lawyer. Besides FaceTiming with Avery and cuddling her horse, Polly, Lola loves to read, make bracelets for her friends, and bake snickerdoodles. She has one dog named Sable, a rescue from an adoption agency in San Antonio.Â
Avery and Lola met at a horse show in 2020 and have been inseparable ever since. The two enjoy riding their horses together and frequently went night skiing after class in high school. They also have a shared love for roller coasters, second-hand shopping, Crepeville in Davis, and of course all animals. After an experience with a family member that gave her the idea for Fern's Place, Avery met with Lola in June of 2022 to ask for her partnership in this project and received an enthusiastic acceptance.
Alana is originally from California and moved to Oregon in 2011. She earned her Master of Social Work degree at Portland State University where she also completed her Bachelor of Science degrees in Community Health Education and Health Sciences. She is a licensed clinical social worker in Oregon and Washington state. Alana currently works at a local hospital as a medical social worker and has been there for the past five years. Alana's interests are in public health, healthcare equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppressive practice. She enjoys napping, reading, stand up paddle boarding, and mountain biking (downhill and very slowly). She also enjoys spending time with her husband, her dogs (Hank and Bosco), and her friends and their pets.
