On November 11th, we gathered together as a community to honour and show respect to our veterans, past and present. Our ceremony began with a parade from the Legion to the Fernie Cenotaph. Major David Black led the parade together with the RCMP and the Colour Party. 2757 PCLI Fernie Army Cadets and 279 Elk Valley Air Cadets joined in, followed by Legion members, local businesses and organizations and youth groups.
At the cenotaph, the bells tolled at 11:00 am to mark the 2-minute Wave of Silence.
Fernie Legion Chaplain Major Rick Robins started the ceremony with a prayer. Branch 36 President, Jennifer Cronin led the cenotaph service. Representatives of government as well as first responders laid wreaths in a poignant ceremony, Through the ceremony, The Fernie Academy sang of O' Canada, Last night I had the strangest dream and God Save the King, white the community businesses and organizations laid their wreaths.
