frequently asked questions

What schedule do you recommend?

For most students, I recommend a 30 minute lesson once a week. Older and more advanced students usually benefit from longer lessons (45 minutes to an hour).

Do you have a practice requirement?

To get students into the habit of practicing, I ask for at least 5 days a week for at least 15-30 minutes a day (depending on the level). More advanced students should practice 45 minutes to an hour a day for at least 5 days a week. However, my biggest concern is always progress. So if you were only able to practice for 3 days but I can see improvement, that’s truly all I ask for!

What is the youngest you teach?

I don’t *technically* have an age limit, but as long as a student is mature enough to sit and listen well and knows their letters and numbers, they are ready to learn piano.

Am I too old to start learning music?

Never! While there is certainly an advantage to beginning music lessons at a young age, the process of learning an instrument can be enjoyable and profitable for anyone! If you have a love for music and a desire to learn, by all means, do it!

Where do you teach?

I teach from my home at the Sawyer Trails apartments. Some exception may arise to where I can teach a student at my church, but I am not currently able to travel to homes to teach.

Do you have recitals?

BIG yes! It is so important to be able to have a definite milestone when learning an instrument, and seeing others perform is always beneficial. I typically hold two recitals during the year - one during the Christmas season and the other in the spring.
