I joined the staff of Ferndale Marching Band in 2021, entering the role of Director in Winter 2025. I graduated from Fraser High School in 2020, where I spun throughout high school before continuing my marching career at Central Michigan University with both their color guard and winter guard programs. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to perform with Juxtaposition Winter Guard and Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps, while also teaching at programs and students across Southeast and Mid-Michigan.
By day, I am a middle school social studies teacher, and I am incredibly excited to continue building lifelong memories, strong relationships, and an unforgettable season with this team!
Tricia McKenzie! Trish, or Mama Trish has been with the band since she graduated FHS in 1997! Trish works with the color guard and accepts the titles of Color guard Yoda, Cleaning Queen, and Team Twirls!
In high school, Trish started freshman year in the marching band playing clarinet. That same year she joined the winterguard. She marched every fall and winter season until she graduated. After graduation, she marched four seasons of independent until she aged out (while teaching).
What keeps her coming back year after year? Trish says, "The growth of our students. Seeing their personalities and confidence blossom! Watching them realize they have the ability to excel!! And MOSTLY I teach with some amazing and gifted humans! I can’t say enough how much I love and appreciate this wonderful guard staff!!!"
Jenny is a proud Lamphere High School alum and joined the Ferndale Color Guard staff during the 2025 winter season. Throughout her marching career, she performed with Ovation, Interplay, Juxtaposition Winter Guard, Etude Independent Winter Guard, Legends Drum & Bugle Corps, and Rhythm X Percussion.
Jenny is excited to continue sharing her experience and passion for the activity while helping students grow and make memories throughout the season!
