Lucid Moments Synopsis
I’ve been spoilt in that I played the vast bulk of my banding life at the top level (A Grade NZ/Aust). It’s what I know. I have helped out all other grade bands at concerts and contests, but when I compose, I gravitate to the technical level of the top tier bands and players. So I felt a challenge to write a more accessible piece… and you can give me your opinions on whether I have succeeded or not!
The title? Hard to explain - sure, it is an allusion to human conditions limiting lucidity to occasional moments, but it’s also inspired by those musical experiences that occur, sometimes unexpectedly in the middle of listening to a particular piece of music that lifts you to a different place, a place of awareness. Hopefully something here jumps out for you!
Personally, I was struggling creatively in the months this was written, and relied upon such “lucid moments” to keep me going with this piece.
