GORLATOVA [they/ them]

Sveta researches the intersection between urban planning, gender, sexuality, race and class. They are a research fellow of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and developing the research project Fem Urban Sandbox which collects expertise and practices of working with cities through the lens of feminism. They are a co-host and co-author of podcast “Sandbox” about future cities, technologies and speculative design. They were a part of the think-tank “The New Normal” at the Strelka Institute for Media, Design and Architecture. Sveta has experience of working with educational programs for urban planners, architects and cultural managers.

HUSSEIM 

STUCK [he, him]

Husseim, a Researcher of Color, is deeply committed to examining urban human-nature relations through the lenses of anti-colonialism and environmental justice. With a Master's degree in Human Geography from the Humboldt University of Berlin and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Resource Management from the Brandenburg University of Technology, his academic journey has been driven by a passion for fostering inclusive and equitable urban spaces.

Utilizing innovative digital mapping technology, Husseim's research delves into the intricate connections between society and the environment. His anti-racist and feminist perspectives drive his exploration of the impact of colonial histories on urban landscapes, with a keen focus on promoting green urban spaces that cater to the diverse needs and experiences of all communities. As a Researcher of Color, Husseim's work challenges prevailing narratives and seeks to address systemic inequalities, advocating for transformative change in urban geography for a more equitable coexistence between people and their urban environments.

Researches the urban setting and urban planning processes through a feminist lens. She is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology and gender studies at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen and planning on pursuing a masters in urban gender studies.

Researches social inequalities, urban research, and gender studies. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in European Urban Studies at Bauhaus Universität Weimar, developing her research project that aims to create visibility of spatial inequality in the city through emotional mapping. During her Bachelor's she focused on studying the political and social complexities in the city.

Nourhan 

Bassam [she, her]

Nourhan Bassam is a feminist urbanist with a professional background in architecture and urban design, and a Master's degree focused on user-centric design approaches. She considers herself a social entrepreneur, educator, feminist urbanist, city enthusiast, and community lover, with a passion for empowering communities to shape their inclusive and sustainable cities.

As part of her work as a feminist urbanist, Nourhan is in the final stage of her Ph.D. studies, focusing on sustainable communities, resilient cities, and social inclusivity. Her research aims to identify creative ideas that promote community engagement and empowerment in the built environment. To gain a deeper understanding of public participation and placemaking, she conducts informal interviews and conversations with various local informants, including community members, policymakers, and stakeholders.

Nourhan is also the founder and CEO of GamingX, a think-tank dedicated to community development and empowerment. The organization strives to create accessible and inclusive play spaces for marginalized groups in the city. In addition to her advocacy for gender-sensitive design, Nourhan has initiated "The Gendered City," an ongoing project that raises awareness about the challenges women face in urban environments and promotes gender equity and social justice. She is about to publish a book with the same name, drawing from her series "How cities keep failing women," to highlight the need for gender-sensitive design and meaningful engagement with marginalized groups in urban planning and policy-making. Through her work, Nourhan aims to create cities that embrace diversity and inclusivity, offering a better quality of life for all residents.

KATYA 

ROMANOVA [she, her]

Researches participatory design practices for youth empowerment and neighborhood reactivation. 
She is interested in exploring the topics of local & global identities, (audio) storytelling, and new approaches to temporary use of public spaces. She runs the berlin bones podcast about Berlin cemeteries and created the BRACHLAND audiowalk about the wastelands of her Berlin neighborhood Weißensee. She has got a degree in Teaching Languages and a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communications at HTW Berlin. She also gained experience working and studying in various countries, including the USA and Argentina
