What is Hijama?
Hijama is a form of wet cupping. It’s derived from the word “Hajm”, which means sucking. Hijama involves performing cupping followed by small incisions into the uppermost layer of the dermis, depending on the condition and location of pain. This is followed by the reapplication of the cups which draws out toxic blood.
How does Hijama work?
Hijama removes the “bad” stagnated blood containing old damaged red blood cells, toxins and wastes from our system. Along with this detoxification, the small incisions trigger an inflammatory response which then activates the immune system enhancing immunity and triggering healing. This also improves blood flow through Vasodilation (blood vessel become larger) allowing transport of nutrients and oxygen while washing out the waste.
Whar are the 5 primary goals of Hijama
1- Removal of toxins, pathogenic mater, and cell debris from the body
2- Triggers immune response through therapeutic trauma resulting in healing
3- Enhances blood flow, circulation, and removal of wastes through vasodilation (blood vessel become larger)
4- Replaces old blood with new blood through hyperaemia due to vasodilation
5- Improves mood causing relaxation and stress relief through the release of endorphins and enkelphins to create numbness and reduce feeling of pain. This promotes the production of serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin which are our feel good hormones

Why do our bodies need a Detox?
Our bodies are constantly exposed to environmental toxins found in the water we drink, the food we eat, and the air we breathe. While our liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system work hard to remove harmful compounds, the growing number of toxins we encounter daily can overwhelm these natural detox systems. When this happens, toxin overload can occur, potentially causing significant harm to the body.
What are the recommended days of Hijama?
There are Hadith that recommend performing Hijama on the 17th, 19th and 21st days of the lunar month. However, there are also Hadith that suggests otherwise
Abu Abdullah (asws) has said: “Recite the Verse of the Throne (Aayat Al-Kursy), and get cupping done on whichever day you like to, and give charity, and go out on whichever day you like”
We suggest If you’re doing Hijama for a general detox, to follow the sunnah of the prophet (SWT) and don't have a condition you want to be addressed then wait for the 17th, 19th and 21st days of the lunar month. However, if you’re doing Hijama for a specific purpose, e.g. to treat an injury, then feel free to do Hijama at anytime.
Does the amount of blood you lose mean anything?
The benefits of Hijama are not measured by the amount of blood drawn out as this is only 1 of the 3 primary goals of Hijama
Typically Woman lose less blood than males due to their naturally lower blood pressure and iron levels
Hijama isn't about removing lots of blood from the body. It's simply about breaking the skin's surface so that toxins can escape. Each individual person bleeds differently depending on their Health, Room temperature, Supplements, Mood, Diet, Age & Lifestyle. Some may naturally bleed a lot, whereas others hardly bleed at all. Both of these are completely normal
Is Hijama painful?
The application of the suction cups feels like placing a vacuum cleaner on your skin, and the incisions feel like a light scratch. Don’t worry; we have never had anyone unable to complete their Hijama treatment due to pain. We do advise patients to perform slow, relaxed breathing during treatment as this will help ease tension in your muscles and encourage better blood flow.
How long will it take the Hijama marks to disappear?
The cupping marks will become light in colour within the first week, depending on your skin type. Generally, the cupping marks will disappear within 10-14 days. However darker marks can last up to 3 weeks due to a high level of toxins and stagnation. Please avoid sun tanning while the cupping marks still show to avoid hyperpigmentation
