School Laptops
You may borrow the school laptop assigned to you from the cart. When done, please log out, return it to the correctly numbered slot on the cart, and plug in the power cord to ensure it's charged for the next student. These laptops are only available for use in my classroom.
Responsibilities
Bring a pen/pencil to class every day.
Bring your latest work to class each day.
During lessons: Listen respectfully when others are speaking.
During lab time: Work productively and quietly on computer science assignments--no video games, no work for other classes, no email, no messaging with friends, etc. Let me know if you believe you've finished your computer science work and don't know what to do work on.
Quizzes and Grades
Class Quiz Day Quizzes Labs Midterm
CS0 A/B 25% 75% None
HCS2 C 40% 40% 20%
HCS3 E 25% 75% None
Lab Grades
There is no partial credit. Continue working on incomplete projects until finished so that you are prepared for the next unit.
Late work loses 2% per school day. This gentle penalty is intended (1) to minimize the temptation to cheat, and (2) to motivate you to finish work eventually, so you don't fall too far behind.
Collaboration on Assignments
These rules are intended to make sure you work in a manner that helps you learn the material best.
You are encouraged to discuss problem-solving at a high-level (in terms of algorithms, diagrams, program state).
You must write your solutions on your own. When completing your work ...
Do NOT look at another student's work (even from a previous year).
Do NOT look up solutions on the Internet.
Do NOT generate solutions using artificial intelligence.
After you have already written your own solution, then:
You may look at another student's work to help them to debug or to learn from their solution.
You may use the Internet or generative artificial intelligence to enhance your learning.
NEVER show your work to another student (unless they have already written their own solutions).
Do NOT discuss solutions or quiz questions unless you are certain that everyone present has already completed it.
NEVER look at quiz/test/exam questions from previous school years.
Violations of these collaboration policies are considered cases of academic dishonesty and will be handled by the dean's office.

Labs
Complete required exercises on time to earn a specified score (often 90 or 95%).
Go above and beyond (e.g. by completing suggested "additional credit" exercises) to earn up to 100%.
If you finish required exercises early, you must continue to challenge yourself (e.g. by completing "additional credit" exercises).
Additional credit work can be submitted until the posted deadline for the next lab.
Classroom Privileges
You may eat/drink in the classroom, as long as you leave no evidence behind.
You may use headphones/earbuds during lab time, as long as (1) your neighbors cannot hear your music at all, (2) you spend minimal time choosing music, (3) you remove any headphones/earbuds when talking with your teacher.
