Cases and Analytics Add-ons
Here, I will give some examples on how to use the core research question and the key research findings from a managerial accounting paper to design mini-cases that fit nicely with the topic taught for the day.
These mini-cases usually take 15-20 minutes of class time and are helpful in motivating students to talk in their small groups and to share with the whole class.
Here are the three main components of a mini-case discussion:
•What is the dilemma? - Ethical, judgment, decision
•What is the trade-off? - Choice overload is not good. Constrain to A/B.
•What is the finding? - One key point that challenges your priors.
This is the way we teach management accounting classes.
Do you want to use mini-cases in your own classes? This is how you can use managerial accounting research to design a mini-case.
