The Mountain Nation of Salamandastron, often referred to as the Mountain Country, or simply Salamandastron, is a Constitutional Monarchy ruled by Jacob Monday for most of it's history, and later Prime Minister Zion Nash. It controlled swathes of land bordering the United Federation of Paper Planes on the Main, in Chicago, and in Columbus, as well as a short border with the Coalition of the North. It had military alliances with the UFP, Republic of Valentino, Republic of Takjing, and briefly the Coalition of the North.
During it's history, Salamandastron was involved in two military facedowns, both as a military and economic ally of the United Federation. It sent economic aid to the UFP in the Granache War, and offered brief assistance in the Firestar Crisis.
After Jacob Monday left the nation, Prime Minister Zion Nash ruled the country for 3 days, while he negotiated it's adjoining to the United Federation. After doing so, the nation became respectively, the states of Eastern Berga, New Salamandastron, and the Territory of Chicago.
After the split of the UFP and Coalition, others saw an opportunity to leave, but most opted to stay under the relative umbrella of the UFP alliance. Jacob Monday, who felt that the State of Columbus was neglected by the High Command, decided to announce his secession from the UFP. He officially declared the State of Salamandastron, based upon a fictional nation in his favorite book series. He later renamed it to the Mountain Nation of Salamandastron.
In the early days of the nation's existence, the nation struggled from constant threat of invasion from the Coalition, and the Federation often had to step in on it's behalf to stop this from occurring. After presumably becoming tired of this repetitive process, the UFP gifted a fleet of 23 older planes still in fair condition to Salamandastron. The Nation immediately formed the United Salamandastron Air Force, or USAF (same acronym as the United States Air Force).
Aiming to become the third superpower in the nations, Salamandastron reverse-engineered the aircraft given to them, and re-made over 100 of them. However, due in part to a lack of nearby members, the nation was not able to claim superpower status, and also because it had no standing navy (although it did have three Merchant Marine Armed Barges).
The Nation is perhaps best known for two things: It's relatively long and difficult name, and the fact that in under 2 months, the nation had gained 52 members, in various cities outside of Sun Prairie. These members were largely old friends of Jacob Monday, and new friends of Zion Nash after he moved to Chicago.
Unlike most nations, Salamandastron did not collapse or fall apart, it instead had a very peaceful end. Jacob Monday, with more activities bit off than he could chew, left the nation to Zion Nash, who, after negotiations, ceded the entire nation to the United Federation.
After seeing the Federation Members still enjoying things in the Nations, Jacob Monday re-created the Mountain Nation, and re-allied itself with the Federation.
The M.C.S. Air Force, officially the United Salamandastron Air Force, operated 5 Spirit-class Destroyers, and various Firestar Squadrons as well. It developed the Hover Hooch, a fighter-gunship mix which is currently labled as top secret.
The United Salamandastron Navy operated 3 destroyers of the Schlafer-class, purchased from the UFP, and a dual turret gunnery cruiser, with a total of 4 5-inch rifles.
