Ever wonder where all the hotshot crews were? What sort of crew types are located around your favorite fishing area or close to home? Do they offer housing? Hopefully, we can answer your questions! Check the link above for a crowdsourced, work in progress map of USFS duty stations, crew types and housing availability. Bad info on there? Blank spot on the map where you work? CONTRIBUTE by following the link above or email us at USHELITACK@GMAIL.COM
PLEASE don't add your remote-ass work station UNLESS it's listed on USAJOBS as the duty station. If you do work outside of the actual station, you can add that info in notes
Why this site (SALARY STUFF)
A few reddit users have made posts showing breakdowns of their hours (regular, H, OT) and wages over the course of multiple fire seasons. Some of these were even featured in an NBC article highlighting the low wages and long hours Federal W̶i̶l̶d̶l̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶F̶i̶r̶e̶f̶i̶g̶h̶t̶e̶r̶s̶ Forestry Technicians are facing.
The goal of this data collection is to highlight the wages and hours of different jobs (Engine, Hotshot, Helitack, Dispatch, etc) and the general differences due to location, experience, etc.
Your data can be collected here via Google Forms and will be used to create charts like the ones below. Some data is optional to increase privacy, but the most important parts are the hours and wages.
Not really doing the salary project anymore, unless folks are interested.
Find salary by crew type in upper corner menu.
