The FEC–SIMSEA Youth Joint Seminars are a joint initiative of Future Earth Coasts (FEC) and the SIMSEA Meta-Network (Working Group 6: Student and Young Researcher Engagement). The series is designed to engage undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as early-career researchers across Asia and Oceania, in conversations about coastal and marine sustainability.
Held every two months, each one-hour seminar features an invited expert who shares insights on emerging research themes in marine science and climate change. The talk is followed by an interactive Q&A and a short Call to Action session, where participants are encouraged to identify opportunities for collaboration — from joint research projects to shared conference initiatives.
By attending, participants gain exposure to leading regional experts, develop professional networks, and strengthen their capacity to contribute to collaborative science. The seminars also provide a platform for youth and early-career researchers to co-develop ideas and link their work to broader management and policy discussions.
