The SIMSEA Meta-Network Meeting was successfully held on 17–18 October 2025 at Sun Yat-sen University, Zhuhai, China, as a side event to the 3rd Annual Conference of Marine System Science. The meeting gathered members and partners from across East and Southeast Asia to align next steps for developing a coordinated socio-ecological monitoring and research network.
The FEC–SIMSEA Joint Seminar, held on 10 October 2025, featured Andrew Fielding of JBPacific, Australia, who shared insights on coastal hazard modeling and resilience planning. The session highlighted how simulation-based approaches can help communities anticipate sea level rise impacts and strengthen adaptation strategies.
Organized by SIMSEA and Sun Yat-sen University in collaboration with the Future Earth Meta-Network Initiative and supported by Future Earth Coasts, this meeting will gather regional partners to advance strategies for establishing FE Meta-Network based on multi-scale socio-ecological monitoring network development and others. Key activities include working group presentations on their progress and plans, thematic working group discussions, and integrative planning workshops. Read more.
Join us on 10 October for an engaging seminar with Andrew Fielding (JB Pacific, Australia), exploring how simulation libraries can help translate climate modelling into actionable resilience planning for coastal communities.
Dr. Brisneve Edullantes (UP Cebu) shared insights on climate change biology and phytoplankton resilience in a warming ocean, engaging early-career researchers across Asia and Oceania. Read recap and watch the recording.
Join us on August 18 UTC for the FEC‑SIMSEA Youth Seminar with Dr. Brisneve Edullantes, exploring how climate change biology reveals phytoplankton responses in warming oceans.

The Meta-Network, a regional “network of networks” initiative for coastal and marine sustainability, was formally introduced during the PEMSEA Network of Learning Centers General Assembly at the East Asian Seas Congress 2024. Presented by SIMSEA Executive Director Dr. Kazuo Nadaoka, the initiative seeks to foster science-policy collaboration, regional coordination, and knowledge integration across Asia’s marginal seas.
