This is a prototype for my game Bring a Torch, which I presented for my master's thesis at DePaul University.
Bring a Torch is a side-scrolling, two-player cooperative survival platformer, in which two players must keep each other's torches (which represent their mental composure) lit in order to progress.
This game is the result of a two-month long incubation process in which I considered my passions and inspirations and finally developed my core mechanic, followed by an arduous year-long process of learning the Godot engine from scratch, building the game systems, creating art and sound assets, playtesting, and iterating.
The most successful part of this long process, I think, was that incubation period, a period during which I asked myself what I want to see in games, what feeling I wanted to convey, and how to translate that feeling into mechanics.
