This was the first bike I bought when returning to riding after fifteen years off. I bought it in 2001 with 12,800 miles on it as a wreck to rebuild. All I really had to do was straighten out the front end bits and reattach the rear sub-frame.
As of 2010, it has close to 75K miles. As I've added more bikes, this one has evolved from my one and only, do everything bike, into my exclusive touring bike - although it's really not a touring bike. There have been lots of trips; TX to NC, TX to WY, TX to IN, TX to CA etc. Brother Ted lives in CA, has an R1100RT and is my frequent touring partner. He's a mile eating animal. I'm working up to selling it and buying a real LD tourer. I have ridden most of the ones on the market and they are all just so porky and uninspiring that I've not been able to find one I can tolerate.
Lots of mods:
