Growth through individual performanceÂ
Project Proposal:
For this project I picked the growth and performance path. singing a solo and a small group piece alongside tracking my growth, and prepare and refine my skills for future performance.
Repertoire Selection Process:
When looking for the pieces I wanted to sing I looked towards specific artists in the jazz genre such as Frank Sinatra and that was when I found his rendition of Jingle Bells and immediately chose it as my piece so I could perform it at the winter choir concert. I chose Jingle Bells by Frank Sinatra because I would like to improve in singing jazz pieces and this felt like a perfect starting point. Frank Sinatra's voice is also one I admire a lot and I would love to be able to sing like him. The selection of Jingle bells was purely for improving my vocal control and tempo.
Practice and Refining:
Through pure coincidence during the practice/refining I was asked to preform another rendition of jingle bells for MHS Guitar which helped show me exactly where the 2 different renditions differ and what I needed to adjust. Hearing first hand each note was a huge help and helped improve my control exponentially. I also recieved help from 3 very talented and kind choir members who sang the backing vocals for this song.
Performance and reflection:
The day of the performance I was very nervous and i am more than certain my co-singers felt the same to prepare for the eventual performance that day I told myself affirmations that would keep me from panicking on stage. During the performance I felt my anxiety drift away and felt myself immersing myself into that performance. My co-singers did amazing and I was never more proud of something I had done. After the performance I did a lot of reflecting seeing where I could improve and the steps I needed to make for that to happen specifically my stage presence.
