May 1st,2055 the day I lost all I ever cared for, and the day I died…I was just a boy with a skinny body average height at the age of fifteen just yearning for a good time with my family after my dad got a promotion at his job.My Mom,and my Brother Jacob had always wanted to go especially my brother who was just seven when he lost his very life…The thing they wanted to do most was have a good time, but it was unrealistic in a world ruled by cyber-ware,and addicting enhancing drugs “Honey are you awake,we’re almost at wonderland” said Mom
"She's right Micah look!” My little brother Jacob yells “Settle down now y'all I know you’re excited” Father said. Those were my Father’s last words before the calamity that took away my soul yet I was the lucky one.A car driven by a drunk cop had slammed into my dads vehicle pushing us into the lake.
“Mom,Dad,Jacob! Where are you!” I screamed.
I was barely getting to the surface myself.I dive down to the car,and saw pure red surrounding the car, shattered glass impaled the people I love most, they were truly dead.I surfaced, and saw the man who had killed my parents.I rush at him with my blood soiled body, glass shards from the car window piercing my chest.I grab the cop by his collar, and he stood there motionless, unfazed, his drunk condition exposed the fact that he was addicted to cyber-ware implantation's in his brain.
“What the hell is wrong with you! You’re just like the rest of them a drunk junkie addicted to selling your body for an artificial one” I shout. The cop looks at me still drunk, barely can tell the difference between red,and blue.Other cops had pulled me off.
A few days later I was in court
I think to myself “How am I gonna get out of here? How many people are watching me?What are they gonna do to me?” The judge looks at me with his bright blue eyes glistening with the courtroom light
“I hereby sentence you to 5 years under probation for assaulting an officer,we will view your actions with a collar that emits an earsplitting shock when intending to commit a crime” the judge says as he slams his hammer down
“What about him, the cop that murdered my family he doesn’t get anything”I scream as I stand up from my chair
“back talking to a judge in court? Better watch that tone unless you want a ticket to 10 years in probation, and no the officer Harrison Tucker will not be penalized by law due to his standing within the hierarchy,I'm sure you understand”The judge said.
I look around the court room speechless it’s as if people were mannequins with no empathy for someone who’ve lost everything. No one dared point out the fact that the officer isn’t punished they stayed silent, emotionless, constantly having their actions dictated like puppets bound to a single string. They stuck the collar on me,and had me walking on the street slowly losing myself from reality. From that point on I swore I would change the world,I would liberate them, and break their chains that keep them obedient with the governments actions…
Part 2
As i'm walking I see a tunnel It reminded me of a time me,and my dad use to always explore when I was a kid,so I went in feeling a little nostalgic. The tunnel was dark, gloomy just overall weird vibes until I see a group of people huddled together.I rush over to see a people gathering around a bleeding person worried for him.“What's going on, why? haven’t you done anything?” I shout
“Keep you voice down, hospitals don’t take charity on people like us,and besides it’s what he would've wanted poor guy spent his whole life building his future, but was wrongfully accused of rape on a young woman, ultimately putting him the probation program” The guy then takes off his scarf revealing the collar, the same one I have, but it didn’t glow as if it were a defected model “Here” He says “Its a permanent disruption on the collar, and don’t worry once you enter the tunnel the signal is disrupted, therefore they heard none of this conversation”
their leader enters the crowd to make a speech. He was tall, and pale as snow, inspiring, and seemed brave. He truly seemed like he really wanted to make a change in the world with his speech, and determination.
“People of the resistance we all know you were wrongfully accused of a crime, and this group will bring justice, and liberation to many like us if you don’t know they use the special probation program on people they pull strings for to wrongfully accuse you of a crime not only that they left one detail out when explaining the collars. These cruel things have a feature that can fry your brain any moment the government wants it to,meaning that no one makes it through their sentence alive.I hereby state that we will have our lives back,we will fight,we will rise, and will certainly triumph to end the government.Thank you for your time, but I have one more announcement to make today at exactly 9:30 Pm we will raid a weapons shipment that's coming from a boat at the dock in Fallsbarry. “Now you are all dismissed, new kid please meet me over here for a confidential conversation” The leader announced.I walk over to the leaders office,
It was a tent within the cave surrounded by lights, with a distinct smell, and an overall depressing environment,it almost felt like I'd stepped out of the cave into a completely different reality. “Ah yes welcome Micah I see you’ve met my assistant Arron he told me a lot about you, moving on from that my name is Baulder, and I lead the group of people you now know as the resistance, very sorry for the smell, but i’d like to ask a favor of you considering one of our men had bled out in front of us”
“What is the favor” I reply
“I would like you to join, and contribute to the shipment raid that is occurring at 9:30 Pm,This will mark your debut in your journey to oppose governmental corruption, and restore order, and freedom that we once had” Baulder exclaimed
“I would love to,but i'm just a weak teenager with no cybernetics like you all”I told him
“This can be re-arranged” Baulder taps a button on his desk that flipped the wall behind him revealing a secret surgery room hidden behind the wall.
The surgery room felt surreal,as if I was being watched by previous patients “your rebirth starts now Micah…” Then a huge claw is revealed behind the curtain in the room, the claw starts moving towards me with forceful intent “It’ll just be a tiny pinch” Baulder says
Part 3
I woke up in Baulder’s office with no memory of what happened, and a sharp headache
“Oh you're finally awake Micah have a seat right next to my desk”
“What happened to me Baulder, whats with this headache” I said
“That's a side effect of the software loading into your brain. It’ll eventually go away, but for now take these pills for the pain” He hands me the pills, and I shoved one down my throat
“The shipment raid starts in ten minutes get ready you are crucial for this operation with your newly given cyberware,so get in the car” Baulder says.I walk outside the cave to see four black suvs with tinted windows. As I get in a car I am immediately met by the guy who disrupted my collar, and a woman who was very short, and skinny, black long hair that went down to her stomach, brown eyes that glistened with the light of the car,a truly beautiful sight.
“Hello new kid i'm Jade, and you’ve met that other guy his name is Crano” Jade told me
“New kid what's your name so we could put it on your tombstone”Crano says
“Why you always so negative all the damn time can’t you just be happy, and not focus on realism, and odds for once there's gotta be some hope in that solemn soul of yours” Jade responds
“My name is Micah, and why are you so certain that we’re all gonna die”
“Oh Micah you optimistic child you ask why i'm so certain of our death, but let me ask this. Why are you so certain that raiding a heavily guarded dock would end well”
“I”
“Leave the kid alone he’s just trying to give you some hope”Jade responds
I genuinely couldn’t answer Crano’s question,I started to realize, and ask myself am I going to risk my life, and die for complete strangers, but for some reason the thought was completely erased from my mind. It's as if my brain couldn’t use its own thoughts.
Twenty minutes later,we arrived at the dock, and analyzed the crates. The dock was huge with lights constantly radiating illumination, and cameras, along with motion detectors monitoring movement.
“Everyone this is a huge step for our group,if we can get our hands on these weapons we’ll be all set for our resitence. Everyone this will put us on the map, constantly being monitored as a threat to the government, but as long as we hold up to the end we will prevail!” Baulder stated to all of the resistance.
From the moment I was introduced to Balder I’ve always been motivated by his speeches, even if I’ve known him for a short period of time, he truly knows how to motivate, and grant hope to shut out desperation.
“Jade,Micah,Crano You’re all with me.Other groups move to your designated crate” Baulder says
“Come on new kid lets see what Baulder’s technology can do” Crano says
As we’re walking I notice Jade’s necklace was a heart with the initials ‘J+T”
“Hey Jade what are the meaning of the initials J and T on your necklace”
She was hesitant to speak on it, the necklace most likely brought up bad memories
“The initials represent me,and my sister It’s the last thing I have of her. Before you ask no she is not dead. We’re just restricted from contacting due to my probation”
“You never told me you had a sibling let alone the reason you’re here, how about we all share our reasoning for probation” I say
“Fine ill participate in this to get to know you better.I Crano was just walking down the street to get some snacks from a convenience store.Everything was just normal until these guys start running from the police. These people had a duffel bag full of enhancing drugs, and so when they ran into me we both fell to the ground, and that's when the guy left me with the drugs to be falsely taken in by the police. That basically sums up my probation reasons what about you Micah”
“It’s a long story, but here's how it begins. My father was driving me,and my family to an amusement park next to the beach,Wally’s word if you’ve ever heard of it.All of a sudden we arrive, and a cop car slams into my dads vehicle, ultimately killing them all,but when I confronted the cop I was charged for assault, and put on the probation program”
“Damn dude tragic…”Crano says
Crano was truly lost for words, and Jade’s whole attitude changed from confident to pure depression
“Well now it’s your turn Jade” I say
“It all started off when me,and my sister got adopted. My father, well stepfather, would bring me to his dark basement, and torture me after every little mistake I made. Spilt a glass of milk basement, dropped a piece of food basement, got my money stolen from thugs, basement. That man never loved me,he just wanted a punching bag to belittle to make himself feel better about himself.Until one day I had enough, and started attacking him,but due to his status of being a cop he was never punish. It kinda relates to your situation Micah”
After that everyone went quiet. No one ever expected Jade to have such a bad life growing up.From being stranded by her parents to then being abused by her step parents.
“Look everyone there's one of the crates” Baulder says
As we enter the crate to search for weapons we notice something extremely odd
“There's nothing here!” Crano panics
“W-What do we do!”Jade also panics
“You can stop resisting and let them take you…” Baulder says
“What” Everyone says
Three men arrive at our crate, and I recognize one of them. It’s the president
“Why hello my special guests.Did you really think you would find specialized weapons here?”The president states with his mocking look
“Baulder what's going on?Why is he here?”I shout
“Me and Baulder have been looking for people trying to rebel against our system, and so he rounded up a bunch of them.I mean come on disrupting collars why the hell would a poor rebel with no money or skill have that.”The president says
All of us went silent. Our leader that had given us motivation, and hope that we would truly be something special to the world is now gone, corroded, deteriorated.
“Baulder!” I yell “So all that talk about going against corruption was all talk, and not your true intentions?”
“Yes Micah what you said is true, and even if you rioted, and protested against them did you really think it would work?”
“I-I”
I couldn’t talk it felt as if my body was betraying itself all I could do is sit there as my legs start to give out making me kneel to Baulder, and the president. The same thing happened to Crano, and Jade
“Don’t resist it the cyber-ware won’t stop killing you no matter what” Baulder says
The cyber-ware had malfunctioned, and emitted a shock to everything around me killing the presidents bodyguards, butBaulder had stepped in front of the president saving his life
“What the hell that wasn’t supposed to happen” says Baulder
“I want these children dead. They interfere with governmental affairs,so ill leave them in your hands Baulder
“On it”Baulder responded
Baulder Intensified the cyber-ware,but it only worked on Crano, and Jaid
“Make It Stop!”Jade, and Crano say in agony
I start throwing punches at Baulder, ultimately knocking him to the floor giving me the opportunity to choke him
“Get off me Micah your life will come to an end soon enough
“I don’t care i'm taking you with me” I say as I start choking him harder
“You’re a mistake,an anomaly that keeps getting in my way since the day you were born!”Baulder shouts
He died after being suffocated for too long, but what did he mean when he said “since the day you were born”
I look behind me,and in the crate to see Crano, and Jade burnt internally due to the cyber-ware overheating…
I knelt down
“Jade! Crano!” But they were both dead, but I remember the necklace had Jade’s sister’s phone number so I took it with me
Part 4
I saw the president scurry towards his boat, but I wasn’t letting him get away easily.
I board the ship, and chase after the president. As I enter the room he ran away to I am met with at bat to my leg by his body guard
“Oh come on Micah you’re so arrogant, and persistent. You could’ve ran away, and lived for five years before eventually dying through the collar, but I guess gifts aren’t appreciated anymore”The president says
“I’ll fucking kill you I will tear down your corrupted society”
The president starts to laugh as if I made a joke while I'm on the floor speechless
“Corruption you say? Your very life started this corruption”
What is he talking about? How could I have possibly caused corruption within the world with just being born?
“You see your father was in charge of collecting debt, and my family were very poor people in debt due to unpaid bills, but when we scrapped up our savings to get ourselves out of debt your father pocketed that money for himself, ultimately plummeting us into more debt,It was so bad that we couldn’t even pay for my fathers life saving surgery.I worked my ass off when I got out of school, and even got a scholarship to college with my major being political science I worked my way up to the president, and even planned your fathers death, that cop wasn’t really drunk he was just acting, and due to his status I knew I could easily pull strings to get him out of conflict. You may be wondering Why would my father steal money? The answer to that is you.You were born with a rare death threatening disease that would take hundreds of thousands of dollars to treat, and so that's where your fathers intent came from”
I was truly speechless. My father, the whole reason I fight, and protest against government corruption is all going to waste.
“Any last words Micah?”The president says
“Yes.Please let me use your phone”
The president hands me the phone, and I dial the number on Jade’s necklace
“Hello” The girl says with a soft voice
“Hey is this Jade’s sister” I respond
“Yes I am, is she doing all right?”
I couldn’t bear to tell a little girl that her sister had died
“Yes she’s fine, she just moved out of the city for a little…”
I look up to see the body guard lift up the baseball bat,and end my life…
The End
Adjei-Brenyah, Nana Kwame. Chain-Gang All-Stars. Missing Publisher, May 2nd,2023.
Chain Gang All Stars by Adjei Brenyah introduces the readers into pure chaos by giving the audience brutal fights between prisoners that were promised freedom if they brutalized each other, and Adjei wants to send a message that corruption will always exist with the emphasis of corrupt companies who value greed, and will sponsor these games since it’s advertised as a “sport” when people are dying. These people constantly support the cause of letting people die despite them being human beings putting their life on the line due to the "opportunity" for freedom through death, and bloodshed. The craziest thing of all is that this is televised, and fellow humans just like the prisoners will still watch, and keep these companies in business once again highlighting Adjei-Brenyah’s message of corruption within our society. It also emphasises the prisoners suffrage with descriptions of the “matches” since he shares brutal descriptions of once human beings, but now a lifeless load of cash, and entertainment, ultimately leading to even more corruption.Adjei adds characters like Mari, and Tracy that protest against the program to show that humanity still exist beneath the constant brutality that people watch. These character represent my theme the most because they believe that the program should stop, and they support their causes through protest like how my theme is political protesting. This source is reliable because it is a fictional story highlighting real world problem through the message of corruption within the real world

Manning Lucy. “Thousands gather for protest against antisemitism in London” May 10th,2026
This article published by Lucy Manning shows many readers the harsh reality of people's beliefs, and that many people still have hatred in their soul for people of Jewish decent. This has led to many protest against antisemitism, but still resulted in many tragedies. In Britain there was a protest opposing antisemitism due to the attacks on a synagogue(Place of prayer for Jewish people) which ended up with the stabbing of two Jewish man,and then started an uprise in protest against antisemitism, therefore the reason for this protest in particular.Lucy Manning starts interviewing victims of these hate crimes, and these interviews highlight the fear Jewish people have to live through when being open about their religion because they are afraid of people who oppose their religion. Not only are Jews afraid of people attacking them at their place of prayer, they now have to also fear them at their protest because a man was arrested for having a knife with them, which highlights that Jewish people have to deal with constant hatred no matter where they go.This article relates to my theme because it represents people protesting for change, and they want antisemitism stopped just like how Mari, and Tracy want the CAPE program to stop. This source is reliable because news reporters were interviewing the victims of the hate crimes to get a perspective on how they feel.
“Hundreds detained during May Day protests in Turkey” May 1st,2026
This article dives deep into both perspectives of protest. One being the protester themselves, and the other being the police that opposes them. The article dives the readers into how it started giving background information like where it was,and how it started through the protesters soul belief that the square should be reopened, while the author backs this up with descriptive words such as “Breach, and chanting for the union square to be reopened” to truly show the dedication that people put in to these protests, even when there were casualties due to the police using things against them such as pepper spray, and water cannons to fend off protesters, ultimately ending up in with 575 people detained. This relates to my theme because it reveals protestors intentions, and how they want to make a difference in their community. This source is reliable because it has video evidence of police detaining people revealing how the police's actions had been recorded, and used as evidence to support the authors claim.
Garcia Regina “Two women risked everything after US raid to protest Venezuela’s detentions of their husbands” April 24th,2026
This article puts the readers into a perspective of a wife that has watched their husbands experience unjust treatment through political matters, and are sent to jail due to these matters. After experiencing this for so long the wives are fed up,and start a protest to free their husbands from their hard, and wrongful treatment. The article also give detailed descriptions of women emotion for their husbands using words like “Chanting, chained together, and screamed” to represent their dedication towards their husbands freedom which did not go unnoticed.Under pressure from the U.S. government, Venezuela announced in January that it would free political prisoners, giving hope to families of detained dissidents. And ”About 150 protesters, mostly wives and mothers, set up outside the doors of jails and prisons suspected of holding political detainees” showing that women dedicating countless hours in protesting did not got to waste. This article relates to my theme because it shows the hard fought desire for change was accomplished, and many unjust allegations were debunked, ultimately showing how women fought all odds to oppose the government through protest. This source is reliable because they provide images of the protest while describing the situation from a source that was at the scene.
Gec Jovana “Serbia’s protesting students renew pressure on Vucic with a big weekend rally”
This article similar to another also gives us a perspective of protesting against the government for change within political matters. The author intensifies, and adds dramatic affect to student emotion by describing political corruption, and how it affected many, ultimately making the students do things like blocking faculties, chanting slogans, and demanding change, which then led to the resignation of the prime minister. These protest truly highlight constant dedication for change, and how their efforts didn't go to waste due to the fact that they force resignation upon the prime minister showing that they overpowered the government with their protest. This article relates to my theme because it shows how students protest against governmental corruption, and how the students prevailed even against someone who has high reputation like the government. This source is reliable because it provides visual evidence of protest, and slogans students used to oppose corruption within the government
