Driving is a fun activity and might be a must if you have child(ren) like me :) You have moved to Sweden and you are dealing with many new things to learn and settle. Here is a short guideline towards getting a driving license in Sweden. The best way is contact an STR driving school. Always remember to check the related websites to find out about the exact information
- Register for permit to learn driving
https://www.transportstyrelsen.se/sv/vagtrafik/Korkort/ta-korkort/
If the system does not recognize your personnummer, contact them to fix the issue.
- Go for the eye check-up
- Contact an STR school and buy a package. If you know driving, a package of five lessons might be enough. If you don’t know, better to select a full package of driving lessons, introductory course, materials, risk educations and loan of the bill.
- Book the theoretical and practical tests in advance https://www.trafikverket.se/. The time table is usually full for the next 2 month. Book one with a minimum interval between the theory and practical tests. If you know driving and you want to rush, you can choose to loan trafikverket’s car for the exam.
- Pass risk 1: Contact an STR school to sign up for risk 1
- Pass risk 2:
- Find halkbana at your city and book a place yourself. Here is the link for Linkoping: https://www.lmshalkbana.se/
- Or if you have registered with a school, ask the school to register for you. I recommend this option. It is a little bit more expensive but you will drive the school’s car to the location which is in the middle of no-where.
- Be prepared for the theory exam:
- Read the theory and the signs books
- Download the app “Körkort Nu” and ask an STR driving school for an account. A lot of people go through the exam using this app only. I used both the app and the books.
- Take at least one lesson with the driving school to find out about the practical exam.
