Dieudonne Nforba, known throughout Cameroon as "Farmer Tantoh," is an environmentalist and social entrepreneur.
To date, Farmer Tantoh has consulted on and facilitated the building of over 60 wells in Cameroon, providing clean water to over 50,000 people. He has also empowered people to build over 800 gardens, and he has trained over 300 volunteers. His accomplishments are many; in 2007, he was selected as the first participant from Africa in the Tahoe Baikal Institute, to study the watersheds of the world. Farmer Tantoh also has the distinction of being named an Ashoka Fellow.
Farmer Tantoh is the subject of a picture book written by Miranda and Baptiste Paul titled “I am Farmer: Growing an Environmental Movement in Cameroon.”
Farmer's Timeline
As a teenager in high school, he experimented with different varieties of plants and raised animals for income and manure.
2002-2004:
He got a scholarship from Far and Wide-Scotland to study tropical agriculture and rural development at the Regional College of Agriculture, Bambili-Cameroon. He graduated with a Higher National Diploma as a Senior Agricultural Technician, specialized in spring water catchment protection and agro-forestry.
2005:
Founded SYFA (Save Your Future Association) which is now The Farmer Tantoh Foundation.
2007:
Selected to represent Africa for training at the Tahoe-Baikal Institute on watersheds of the world in Russia & the United States
2007:
He studied sacred places and spring water conservation with Buddhists in Ulan Ude-Buryatia (Northern Mongolia)
2009:
Start of water projects in Cameroon; more than 60 springs and wells built, providing clean water to more than 50,000 and livestock
2010-2011:
Studied at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College-USA. Certificate in Horticulture and Landscaping/ Sustainable organic farming practices.
2019:
"I am Farmer: Growing an Environmental Movement in Cameroon" written by Miranda & Baptiste Paul - visited 40 schools in the United States with the authors, presenting to over 30,000 children in 12 states
Vision 2030:
The goal is to elect 100 fellows (both males and females) to represent the movement in 100 villages of the Northwest Region of Cameroon.
Villages can now design self reliant projects to transform rural landscapes without depending on government or foreign aid.
Projects shall focus on environmental protection, clean water, renewable energy, agriculture and eco-tourism.
