I have a diverse teaching background both as an English as a foreign language and English as a second language instructor at K-12 schools, colleges, private organizations, and non-profit organizations. In addition to teaching, I was also responsible for developing formative and sometimes summative assessment. Through conducting regular assessment in classrooms, I was able to gain an in-depth understanding of students' learning outcomes and their learning styles, thus adjusting my instruction accordingly. My assessment literacy was enriched through daily practice.
I was an item writing intern for the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) speaking and writing sections at Educational Testing Service for six weeks in the summer of 2017. My daily work involved participating in regular training/meetings and wrote items independently. Through the internship, I was able to get a hands-on experience with item writing for large-scale language assessments and learn the daily routines at a renowned testing company.
Over six weeks in the summer of 2018, I worked as an intern for the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA 21) at Iowa Department of Education. My responsibilities included writing technical manuals, creating online training modules, and participating in calling the vendor and design team.
From fall 2018 to spring 2019, I became a contractor at Iowa Department of Education. I was mainly responsible for reviewing manuals, documents, technical specifications, and learning modules. By working with test administrators and policy makers at the state level, I was able to gain a top-down perspective about administration of large-scale assessment.
