Advanced Art Club
By: Aisha. Sattar
The Advanced Art Club is a great place to express your creativity and have fun with your friends. Ms. Rein says, “the Art Club is a great place to share your art while having fun”. The art club is open to everyone, even if you aren’t good at art. Ms. Rein said some of her goals for the art club include “making a mural in the hallway”. Besides that, we are looking forward to some other cool projects.
Ms. Rein has many more new ideas for the art club. Some include using paper mâché, jewerly making, and watercolor paintings. Ms. Rein provides the art club with watercolors magazines for collages, jewelry making supplies, and more. A few things she would like to supply in the future are pottery supplies and canvases for painting. Those are a few things that are supplied or might be supplied in the future for the art club.
The art club is always open to anybody who would like to join. Ms. Rein states, “the art club is open year around”. Ms. Rein also said that if a sport or club you were doing ended you could always join the art club. The art club is split into two groups because of how many people participate in the art club, club A and club B. Ms. Rein usually puts friends in the same group. For them to share ideas and have a good time at the art club. In conclusion, the art club is a great place to have fun and try new art ideas.
Good Reads from a Student

Whether it’s boiling, rainy, or snowing, it’s always a good idea to grab a good book and hunker down in a comfy place. So, here’s some recommendations from students and teachers around the school!

This particular book series has over 40 books, including fillers. There’s one main book series and about two trilogies. And this particular author is always writing, sometimes publishing 2 books in one year! This person is Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson series and Magnus Chase trilogy, as well as the Kane Chronicles and the Nico di Angelo Adventure duology. These books are funny, fantasy-filled adventures that will never keep you bored! Plus, these stories expand your knowledge of Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology in a fun way! And if you want to read longer books, most of these books are 400- 450 pages long each. I started reading the books last January, and I still have probably 5-10 unread books! Trust me, you’ll love these.

If you know Gordon Korman, you will probably know him from his book published a couple of years back in spring of 2017, Restart. But this book is a more recent release. Its name is ‘The Fort.’ Christine says she likes it because it has great characters, and the reader gets insight into what each character is going through. The chapters alternate between the characters, like most of his books, so you’ll never get bored! This book is a nice read, with 256 pages. It’s a story about 5 friends meeting a new kid in town, and finding an unearthed bomb shelter after a massive hurricane rips through their town, destroying a lot of it. The boys soon discover that in order to truly be lifelong friends, they have to let each other in. This is a heartwarming book and perfect for any middle-schooler. If you love realistic fiction with a dash of adventure, give this book a chance.

Do you love reading, or even mildly enjoy it, but don’t really like all the words? Then this next book could be for you! ‘They Called us Enemy’ by George Takei is a graphic novel, taking place in the early1940’s right after the Bombing of Pearl Harbor. It follows George’s childhood as a Japanese- American during WWII and being put inside one of America’s concentration camps at the order of Franklin D. Roosevelt for anyone of Chinese heritage or descent. Follow him as he faces years of cruel treatment, legalized racism, and hardships inside his barbed wire ‘home.’ Bella says she loves this book because the pictures make the story easier to read. She also adores this book because of the pivotal plot and incredible illustrations. She finds the story inspiring, not only because Takei made it through, but because of all the great things he’s done for the world after he grew up. This beautiful graphic novel could be your next favorite read. Try it and find out!

Murder mystery is always an interesting read, and ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ by Holly Jackson is certainly interesting! Part of a book series, Aubry recommends this book because it has a wonderful mysterious element, and it sucks you in. Plus, there’s a series on Netflix so you can read the first book, and then watch the first TV series, etc. The story follows a girl named Pip Fitz- Amobi, who is a true crime enthusiast. One day, the murder of a popular kid from Pip’s school shakes the small town of Little Kilton, Buckinghamshire. And since the police aren’t doing a very good job of figuring this out, it’s up to Pip to solve the case. If you love a good true crime element and some mystery, this is truly a perfect fit.

‘Everything You Need to Ace Chemistry in One Big Fat Notebook’ is a favorite for 8A science teacher Ms. McKee. She says she likes this book because it breaks down complicated scientific topics and uses real life examples to make it more relatable. It covers everything from atoms to Le Chatelier’s Principle! And, to make matters better, there’s also books covering geometry, biology, pre-algebra and algebra 1. These books are also borrowed from the smartest kid in class. Which class, I don’t know. Which kid? I also don't know. But the books are double-checked by an award-winning teacher. Plus, this book is for kids mostly going into high school, so this book could give you a leg up in the educational system. If you don’t care about school or studying that much, this book can help you make sure you know all the material, so you don't have to study as much! This book is perfect for anyone looking to do better in the academic world. Give it a read!
