Our Orchestras

Classic Orchestra

The Classic Orchestra is a non-audition group of students in grades 9-12. Emphasis is placed on exploring different periods of string orchestra literature. Goals include excellence in performance, creating beauty through solid technique, ear training, an understanding of style, and bringing string music to the community as a long-term commitment.

Select Orchestra

The Select Orchestra is an auditioned orchestra comprised of students in grades 9-12. This orchestra focuses on developing a strong sense of musicianship through more challenging repertoire and higher expectations of preparation and practice.

Chamber Orchestra

The Chamber Orchestra is our top auditioned ensemble at Fairview and is comprised of students in grades 9-12. This orchestra performs repertoire that is usually reserved for collegiate and professional ensembles and often combines with wind and percussion students for full orchestra music. Chamber Orchestra is often invited to perform at national festivals and represent the highest level of orchestra Fairview has to offer.

The Fairview Orchestra program is comprised of 96 students across three string orchestras. Each orchestra performs at least 2 concerts per semester, and perform with wind and percussion students from the Fairview Band program on select concerts. Fairview regularly sends students to perform at Western States Honor Orchestra, All State Orchestra, and other competitions. Our students are not only talented musicians, but also school leaders, academic achievers, and student athletes.

The Fairview Orchestras regularly receive Superior ratings at regional and state festivals. Other recent notable performances for the orchestra program include:

March 2024 - Chamber Orchestra earned 3rd Place at the ASTA National Orchestra Festival in Louisville, Kentucky
January 2023 - Chamber Orchestra performed at the Colorado Music Educators Association clinic and conference, which is considered the highest honor in the state. This was the 10th time that one of Fairview's orchestras was invited to perform in our school's history.
March 2019 - Chamber Orchestra performed at the ASTA National Orchestra Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico
