Sarah had some great activities for kids and adults that we had in the shelter not far from the garden
On April 29 I came to the garden to check things out and a robin had made a nest and laid her eggs in our hose storer.
On May8 two eggs had hatched.
On May 9 another egg had hatched
May 15
On May 18 their feathers were forming and after not much longer they left the nest and we could clean off the nest and put our hose back on it.
Melissa Hillmann had some land by highway 19 across from the lumber yard and she let me plant some potatoes at the west end and members of the church I go to (Winthrop Covenant) plant sweet corn for an organization called Growing Hope Globally. She even worked up the ground for us.
We tried to pull this old 2 row planter with a riding lawnmower but it drug along the soil. Another person brought over a 4-wheeler which worked well.
It worked well!
My potatoes and the sweet corn growing well.
Almost ready to pick the sweetcorn
We picked lots of corn off this patch in August. Notice both large coolers are full!
We sold the corn at different farmers markets. I also sold lots of spaghetti squash and donated proceeds to Growing Hope Globally.
My southeast in ground patch grew well. The tomato, cabbage, kohlrabi, pepper and broccoli plants were from Chuck Marlowe, Farm Mercantile and GFW FFA greenhouse.
Nobody claimed the space between my garden and the children's garden, so I planted sweet corn for later harvest.
I transplanted strawberries from our garden by our house to the box in the northwest corner.
The next box south had green beans. Next box tomatoes and then one with volunteer dill.
The sweetcorn was knocked over by a strong wind.
It came back and straightened up.
Sweetcorn almost ready to harvest.
The green beans produced lots of beans.
A days' bounty from the garden on our counter at home.
Another picking ready to be taken home from the garden.
One of a number of diggings of potatoes from the Hillman garden.
Mostly spaghetti squash from the same garden.
