This document is provided as context — the problems leading up to the faculty resolution are not new and should not be surprising to anyone. The leadership problem at CLU was commented on by CLU's accrediting commission, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. We call your attention to pp. 9-10:
"Both staff and faculty groups shared views with the visiting team that expressed a lack of trust, yielding concern regarding their ability to share information openly and honestly with the senior leadership of the university. The team was provided a number of examples where anonymity or confidentiality was not maintained or there was a perception of retribution. Fear of retribution, especially by groups that are less empowered in the university hierarchy – such as staff and junior faculty who do not enjoy the protection of tenure, along with employees of color – was cited by some as a reason for the belief that inappropriate behavior or conduct was still an issue at the university. Many individuals also cited examples of faculty and staff who have left the university at least in part because of the campus climate and certain behaviors, as well as a belief that there is a lack of accountability on the part of senior leadership of the university."
