Open Methodology Statement
The Capital Trajectory™ framework, along with its associated concepts, metrics, and methodologies, is intended to be an open framework for the advancement of facility stewardship, capital planning, and infrastructure sustainability.
The purpose of this work is to promote a broader understanding of the relationship between facility assets, capital funding requirements, deferred maintenance, organizational capacity, and long-term risk.
Organizations, software providers, consultants, researchers, institutions, and public agencies are encouraged to use, adapt, implement, extend, and improve these concepts in their own work.
No license, fee, or permission is required for the use of the underlying principles, methodologies, formulas, or planning concepts described within the framework.
The author's intent is to encourage widespread adoption and continued development rather than exclusive ownership.
However, no individual or organization is authorized to claim exclusive ownership of the underlying methodology or to restrict others from applying, studying, improving, or advancing these concepts.
The goal is simple: to create a shared body of knowledge that improves facility decision-making and promotes responsible stewardship of the built environment. -Kevin Folsom
