This is an exciting year in first grade! We are an amazing class of vivacious learners and we are jumping into the year feet first.
This year we are working on changing our mindset on what learning can look like in the classroom.
This means that students sit where their brains learn best! This could be on the floor, at a bicycle desk, or at a wobble stool. We are also working on creating independent learners through technology. Technology is an excellent scaffold that can make independent learning experiences successful. As teachers, we are committed to shaking up the norm and providing our students what they need to learn best.
Blended learning involves students using technology both outside and inside the classroom. Students will access online lessons that they will complete outside the classroom so they will be ready to apply their knowledge inside the class. These lessons can also be for your reference so you can extend the learning from my room to your home.
While blended learning does involve students completing optional work outside the classroom I will not be implementing traditional homework outside of nightly reading in my classroom. The research I have read has shown no correlation between homework and marked increase in school performance.
