At The Black Out 2026, we are proud to present The Biddy Mason Award for Small Business Excellence.
The Biddy Mason Award honors one outstanding, local, diverse minority owned small business that exemplifies excellence in Allegheny County.
The award is named in honor of Biddy Mason, who rose from being born into slavery to becoming one of America’s first prominent entrepreneurs and landowners. She is celebrated for her charity and her impactful contributions specifically to the Black community, including providing shelter for prisoners, founding a school, a foster home, and establishing one of the largest churches in her area.
