FAACT Road Map
Instructional materials for FAACT are organized into four main sections.
01. Learning Trajectories
Provides teachers with detailed information about the stages of reasoning that comprise the learning trajectory.
Written explanations and work samples provided to support teachers’ understanding of the trajectory stages so they can gauge students’ understandings in the diagnostic tasks.
Acts as a tool that teachers use to get a snapshot of a student’s thinking and plan instruction.
02. Diagnostic Fraction Tasks
Clinical interview designed as an initial assessment for teachers to use with individual students or small groups settings.
Helps teachers determine a student's initial understanding of fractional concepts.
Includes guiding questions and a Teacher Noticing Guide to help teachers focus on the components of students’ fractional thinking.
03. Instruction
Learning framework
Four sets of tasks & representations, prompts, and talk moves aligned to the trajectory that teachers use to plan purposeful, targeted instruction (sample lessons included).
First task set: stretches across all trajectory stages and gives further diagnostic information on students' conceptions.
Second, third, and fourth task sets: designed to promote a stage of reasoning within the trajectory.
Adaptive decision guide supports teachers to make decisions about instruction based on students’ thinking and can aid in providing more personalized instruction.
04. Development Activities
Provides resources for teachers who need foundational activities not reflected in the trajectory.
Teachers may use the resources to provide opportunities to support students who are still considering number concepts and multiplicative reasoning.
