Francisco Jesús Cañadas Quesada was born in 1977 in Linares (Jaen, Spain). He received a B.Sc. degree in Telecomunicaction Engineering from the University of Jaen (Spain) in 2000 and a M.Sc. degree in Telecomunicaction Engineering in the University of Malaga (Spain) in 2004, obtaining Honours Degree in his Master Thesis.
He worked as Telecommunication Engineer in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación (ETSIT) of the University of Malaga in the period 2004-2006 under supervision of Dr. Arcadio Reyes Lecuona.
Since 2006, he has been a member of the Department of Telecommunication Engineering of the Escuela Politécnica Superior de Linares (EPSL) of the University of Jaén as a lecturer who has taught in several Degrees and Masters of Telecommunication Engineering. He has also obtained several teaching awards from both the Official Association of Graduates and Technical Telecommunications Engineers of Andalusia (COITTA) and the Official Association of Technical Telecommunications Engineers (COITT) for several Bachelor Thesis and Doctoral Thesis that he has supervised.
In 2006 he also joined the Research Group "Signal Processing in Telecommunication Systems" (TIC-188), whose coordinator is Dr. Nicolás Ruiz Reyes, doing his doctoral studies at the Department of Telecommunication Engineering of the University of Jaén under the supervision of Dr. Nicolás Ruiz Reyes and Dr. Pedro Vera Candeas. Finally, he finished his PhD with a dissertation titled Investigación y desarrollo de técnicas de estimación multi-pitch y su aplicación a la transcripción automática de señales musicales polifónicas" (Research and development of multi-pitch estimation techniques and their application to the automatic transcription of polyphonic musical signals) in December 2009, which was graded as Sobresaliente Cum Laude (Excellent Cum Laude).
Currently, he is Associate Professor in the Signal Theory and Communications Area belonging to the Telecommunication Engineering Department of the University of Jaen (Spain). He has obtained 3 teaching merits (quinquenios docentes) recognised by the University of Jaén and 2 research merits (sexenios de investigación) recognised by the CNEAI. To date, he has been one of the supervisors of three doctoral theses graded as Excellent Cum Laude.
His research interests is mainly focused on signal processing techniques, factorization algorithms and machine learning applied to audio and biomedical sound information retrieval . He is co-author of more than 35 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) publications, more than 30 conference publications and several scientific book chapters covering audio signal processing. Moreover, he has been involved in several research projects of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education (MEC), the Government of Andalusia and private companies.
