Why use High-Frequency Words Alongside Phonics?

1. Many Common Words Don’t Follow Regular Phonic Rules Words like said, was, you, the, are don’t follow standard sound patterns. If children rely only on phonics, they get stuck when decoding these words.

When is most suitable to start the series?

Before starting, children should:

Be able to recognize and name the letters a–z (uppercase and lowercase).
Have some awareness of letter sounds (phonics).
Be able to listen and follow simple instructions.
Be able to hold a pencil and trace simple letters or lines.
Recognize a few familiar words from daily life (big, dad, cat).

Each level comes with a ready-to-use 16-week Lesson Plan (60 minutes) that fits easily into your school’s timetable.
Levels 1 & 2 can be completed in one year, and Levels 3 & 4 can also be combined to finish within a year.
Schools can adapt the plan freely, break the 60 minutes into short sessions, and use it alongside as part of their English/phonics program.
Schools can also run it as a flexible After-school Reading Program. It works for all ages, from early readers to older students. Grouping by similar ages makes learning smoother and more effective.
Digital flashcards and extra printable worksheets are included, giving children plenty of fun ways to see, say, and try out new words.
Each unit is also complete with a Checklist for teachers to track student progress. Give small praise or stickers when children can read a new word list.
