How Does inSight Align With My Practice?

My name is Braden Litt and I work as an elementary school teacher, primarily working with Grade 6/7 students. I have long had an interest in the integration of technology to help support educational practice and learning experiences, which led me to join the UBC Masters of Educational Technology program. As a teacher, I am always looking for ways to enrich my students' learning experience and supplement the curriculum to maximize learning. I also am working towards a more sustainable manner of education, starting with reducing my paper waste.

These factors often lead me to utilize technology-based tools, particularly those on mobile devices since these are the tools that are most often available to me. Evaluating these resources can be incredibly time-consuming and I often feel that it is hard to measure the effectiveness of these resources when each student is working independently on their own respective device. When creating my own resources and lessons, I often question whether my choices align with the experiences that would best serve the educational needs of my learners.

A technology, such as the proposed inSight, was born as a means to help bridge what I perceive to be a gap in the current educational structure while taking advantage of improvements in the physical technology of mobile devices. Having a passive way of evaluating resources and efficiencies of students would greatly reduce my workload, while highlighting areas that would be important for increased attention, such as reviewing 1 on 1 with students or screening for learning challenges that can be difficult to identify outside of learning assessment situation.
