There are two sessions on the day of EED: one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Children can participate in either of the two sessions. The sessions run at the times listed below:
Morning Session - 8:30am - 12:00pm
Afternoon Session - 12:35pm - 4:00pm
Students will be grouped together based on grade level. The group size is ideally up to 20 children and their accompanying parents. If parents are in attendance, one parent per child is permitted (see below under "Parents Schedule" for more information). Groups will be chaperoned by RPI students, and activities will be led by about 3-4 students from various clubs on the RPI campus.
Each session will begin with a welcome session in one of the main lecture rooms where we will share more about RPI, the Society of Women Engineers, and the interactive activities that clubs have planned. From there, groups will divide into 30-minute, hands-on activities for the participants to do! Each group will attend four different activity sessions during the event. Lastly, the event will close in the welcome session room to wrap up! Parents will be able to pick up children at the end of the event. See below for a sample schedule of what a day would look like for your child!
While one parent per child is permitted to attend the group sessions, we do encourage parents to attend parent talks! Each year, several professors are invited to speak to parents about their research and general experiences in STEM. These talks will be for the length of the event and will allow parents to meet with their children upon the end of the session. See below for some example talks that took place last year!
