Recount text is a type of text used to retell experiences, events, or incidents that have occurred in the past. The purpose of recount text is to inform or entertain the reader by presenting a story about events experienced by the writer or someone else.
Characteristics of Recount Text:
1. Contains past experiences: Focuses on events that have already happened, whether personal experiences, historical events, or significant occurrences.
2. Uses chronological order: Events are arranged in the sequence they happened.
3. Language: Written in the past tense since it narrates past events.
4. Uses time conjunctions: Such as yesterday, last week, two years ago, etc.
5. Informative or reflective: It can be a factual report or a personal memory.
Structure of Recount Text:
1. Orientation: Introduction to the situation, setting, and people involved in the event.
2. Events: A series of events narrated in chronological order.
3. Reorientation: A conclusion or the writer's comments about the experience (optional).
Types of Recount Text:
- Personal Recount: Stories about personal experiences.
- Factual Recount: Retelling factual events, such as travel reports or historical reports.
- Imaginative Recount: Imaginary stories written as if they were real experiences.
Example of a Recount Text:
Title: My Trip to Bali
Orientation: Last month, my family and I went to Bali for a vacation. It was my first time visiting the island.
Events:
- On the first day, we visited Kuta Beach and enjoyed the beautiful sunset.
- The next day, we explored Ubud and saw the traditional Balinese dances.
- On the final day, we bought some souvenirs before heading back home.
