The original brick building was built in 1914-15.
In January 1914, the architect visited the chosen site and the land was surveyed.
Contractors met at the bank in April 1914 to present their bids from the architects' drawings. It was determined that more money was needed from the original $28,000. A new bond was presented to the public and Exirans accepted to increase the price of the school to $38,000.
It was also decided somewhere in this time to build the school east of the wooden one, so classes could continue while construction proceeded.
Ground was broken around the middle of May 1914.
