Key points
Workers are assessed to establish their competence and ensure they’re safe to practice.
Assessment should test what a worker can do and what they know.
It's essential that you understand what you are assessing and why, and be competent in the standard you are assessing.
There are a number of ways to assess - you will choose the more appropriate method for what is being assessed.
You should plan the assessment to ensure evidence gathered is relevant to the standards.
Taking a holistic approach to assessment is a time effective way to assess a standard within the context of whole work activities.
