Supervision is an essential aspect of continuing professional development and plays a key part in ensuring good practice and high-quality care. Professionals at all levels of their careers will benefit from supervision, as it provides an important opportunity to reflect on their professional practice, including what went well, or not so well, and where improvements could be made
Supervision in the XL Team happens monthly with contracted employees and members of the management team and quarterly supervision with XL team bank members.
Introduction supervision should be completed when an employee first starts with the XL Team.
Regular supervision should be completed after an introduction
Welfare supervision should be completed when a member of staff has not received their supervision within their 3-month period.
Touch base can be recorded when an interaction takes place that may need to be recorded outside of the supervision period.
Probation review (only applies to contracted employees) This meeting takes place before the employee reaches 6 months within the company, after liaising with others within the management team
§ 3 options are available
· End probation: This terminates the probation placed on the employee and they become a regular member of staff.
· Extend probation: This enables us to extend the probation period for a further time if any issues or concerns need to be addressed
· Fail probation – terminates the employment of the employee.
Once supervision is complete, update the supervision log, and employee file. If supervisors feel that an employee requires an extended probation or is failing their probation period discuss concerns with the coordinator. Supervisors can not fail an employee's probation.
Introduction supervision needs to be completed by an employee's line manager, all other supervisions can be performed by any member of the team as long as agreed by their line manager.
Introduction Supervision is the first step in the supervision process, it enables a new employee to understand our aims, goals, values, and principles.
This supervision should be conducted by the employee's line manager either face-to-face or by telephone.
Regular Supervision
Regular Supervision is completed monthly or quarterly depending upon the employee.
This supervision can be conducted by another member of the line management team (as long as their line manager agrees)
This supervision should be completed Face to Face (Only).
Welfare Supervision
Welfare Supervision is a supervision that takes place when a member of the workforce has not had contact with a line manager in a 3-month period.
This supervision should be conducted by the employee's line manager either face-to-face, by email or by telephone.
Touch Base Supervision
Touch Base Supervision is supervision conducted by another line manager that is not part of the formal supervision process.
This supervision would normally happen face-to-face and is used to enable their line manager identify problems
