[Book] F. Battaglia, Natur des Menschen. Ein normativer Entwurf, Mimesis Verlag, Milan, 2023.

Various philosophers, such as Jürgen Habermas and David Estlund, have argued that the concept of "human nature" cannot become the subject of modern science. Geert Keil goes even further, arguing that appeals to human nature can take on a decidedly anti-naturalist character. The concept of "human nature" has fallen into disrepute in various circles, and a remarkable number of criticisms have been made against it. The recommendation is to reject the term altogether. Conversely, political discourses and techno-anthropology continue to use the term. This book characterizes in detail two different conceptions of the term - one essentialist and one normative - and argues for a notion of "human nature" that is compatible with our conception of practical reason.
