Decision
Decision
We decided that using an EV to travel in the route closer to the coast but not on the coast would be the the most expedient route. Taking into account the availablity of fast charger.
So our destination was settled and booked then we would take our time on the way back to explore the Northern Queensland locations.
We can evaluate for the most enjoyable locations taking into account the experience and the suitablity of places for the Grey Nomad generation.
The process outline steps
Put the destination in google maps and use it as a reference
Then use ABRP to produce a itinerary based on DC chargers as DC Chargers are the only data the program (ABRP) can access.
Using the time & distances decide what time is ideal to arrive or the travel time per day.
Using Plugshare to create a trip and check the state of the chargers used by ABRP and also check that new chargers have recently become active as ABRP may not have access to them instantly. Also the trips elevation can be viewed in Plugshare usefull to check the range expectation.
Checking if accomondation have charging facilties for EVs also the type of accommodation. Most don't have any provision even a 240v 10 amp outlet available.
Book the final accomodation based on the time allowed to travel the total distance. Then decide if we want to book along the way.
The intended route inland to Port Douglas
The intial decisions and the resourses for the Ev and for the attactions along the way
The starting point with the planning is the decision whether attempting a direct route or a conservative route or a slower and longer option and either coastal or inland bypassing the capital cites.
much shorter trip than the one to Cooktown
other EV drivers have travelled to Cooktown 😁
