To support capacity building of moderators, the EVO coordinating team has designed Moderator Professional Development. The five-week Moderator Professional Development (MOD PD) program is a well-organized and supportive training opportunity for EVO session moderators. It helps moderators prepare for the design of their session for the upcoming EVO 2026 (January 11 – February 15, 2026). MOD PD offers practical experience in online moderation, facilitates the design process for moderators, and incorporates the use technology in teaching.
Create a space for facilitated and guided design of EVO sessions through a collaborative approach to learning
Share expertise while learning from experienced educators on the EVO Coordination Team.
Build support structures to develop or enhance skills in using technology for teaching.
Sunday, October 5 - Sunday to November 9, 2025 (5 weeks)
An average of 2–3 hours of dedicated work per week, however, this will vary by participant.
It is designed to be manageable and flexible due to its asynchronous nature.
Moderators have a chance to reflect on and refine their own sessions.
Moderators have a chance to support each other collaboratively by sharing best practices, lessons learned and positive feedback.
New moderators are supported and contribute within a collaborative learning environment.
Skill Development
1. Learn to design, facilitate, and manage online courses using a Learning Management System (LMS).
2. Develop digital teaching and moderation skills for collaborative, online learning.
Collaborative Deliverables
Working with lead/co-moderators, you will:
- Refine and finalize the session proposal and syllabus.
- Build the session’s online space in the LMS.
- Produce at least three fully developed modules (of the planned five).
- Complete overview pages for all modules
Update every module—ensure all content is fully developed and revised as needed.
Collaborate with co-moderators to refine the session proposal, syllabus, and LMS space.
Share insights and best practices from previous sessions during Moderator Professional Development (MOD PD) activities.
MOD PD encourages regular reflection on the integration of technological tools in online courses, teaching practices, course designs, and interactions among participants. In other words, it helps foster a reflection culture about the teaching and learning process. It also becomes a space for returning moderators to share lessons learned, best practices and tips with new moderators.
New lead and co-moderators are required to participate in MOD PD. Guidance will be given.
New moderators commit to regular and ongoing engagement in MOD PD in the form of substantive responses to all prompts each week.
New moderators commit to completing the weekly tasks in MOD PD; completion will be monitored and assessed by EVO Coordinators.
Returning lead and co-moderators are required to register and log in for the MOD PD course, have notifications turned on, and stay abreast of developments regarding their EVO proposal and module development. They are responsible for collaborations among the team, as well as communicating deadlines, special events like EVO live webcasts, and other information to their co-moderators.
Returning lead and co-moderators are required to show completion of any content that relevant and assigned through module tasks within the MOD PD course.
New and/or returning moderators will receive a certificate of participation of MOD PD for completing the weekly tasks assigned to them.
New moderators who do not earn a certificate of participation for the MOD PD will not be permitted to continue as moderators of their proposed session.
Returning moderators who do not earn a certificate of participation for the MOD PD will also not be permitted to continue as moderators of their proposed session.
