This interview was performed following the publishing of Quintessence: A Defense for Immortality, written by High Alchemist Vahna d'Cannith. The date is Rhaan 13th, 997YK.
High Alchemist Vahna d'Cannith, following her attempted publishing of Quintessence: A Defense for Immortality, was quickly and effectively silenced, as her highly awaited publication on a deciphered Dhakaani formula for created immortality was pulled from the few shelves they made it to, and her research seized by the King's Citadel.
No shortage of outcry was heard, as the High Alchemist is largely being recognized as a once silent hero in the House of Making. Her research has been publicized by the Sharn Courts this week as she expresses her contempt of the city for taping her mouth on undoubtedly revolutionary findings.
The High Alchemist joins us today in Sharn Inquisitive after a week of closed-door deliberations with the Council of Sharn, how are you feeling today High Alchemist?
I'm feeling quite well, all things considered.
So this is day eight of what must be the largest case against the state, how are you holding up with such tremendous opposition?
*Vahna, stern in her face, gives determined pauses between the question and every answer.*
You know, it started out as if I was giving one of my lectures. The Council, the Sixty Families, and the King's Citadel were tragically unprepared to contend with me.
Right.
I don't mean that in any boastful, self-aggrandizing way. But it has become obvious to me, and I think to High Anvileer Shater Riggs as well, that we have to explain highly controversial subjects that occur in such heights of technological achievement to people who have no feet set in our world.
Well of course the Council of Sharn is consulted by experts for advancing public interest, and reform of any kind seems impossible as you go up the wards. Was there anything specific that you couldn't explain away? I imagine the discussion went beyond the practical aspects of immortality.
Absolutely it did. The alchemy was all the bearing for me and none of the bearing for them. By day four, House Jorasco had failed to attend on my behalf to reinforce the benefits of it, and I've been somewhat expelled from their support.
I just find it tough to grapple with what immortality would even mean.
Well, let me p- do I have your permission to be frank, maybe morbid?
Work away.
Let me put it this way then. And perhaps I should explain exactly what an immortality formula would do to Khorvaire. Imagine if King Galifar had remained. The Five Nations would still be the Five Nations. I make no argument on whether Droaam and Valenar should or shouldn't exist, but I can tell you that we'd still have Cyre!
At this point, the interview was immediately ended, as Sharn Watch guards entered the room and escorted Vahna d'Cannith out of the room.
The corruption of this city is blatantly obvious, and has been. Today I witnessed firsthand as the leadership of King Boranel has crushed a possibility for immortal life under its fist.
Long live the High Alchemist.
