About Us

Lauren, Elisabeth, and Emma from Troop 4043

We are an 8th grade Girl Scout troop from Texas, USA. For our Silver Award project, we wanted to increase awareness of other cultures. Our goal is to stop the “One Story Effect” which is generalizing societies based on a one-sided perspective. We want to bring awareness to the diversity of other cultures and the differences that make us unique. Our goal is to make a connection both locally and globally. To complete this we have split our project into two parts.

Our local goal is to add more multicultural books to our local library so that everyone can better understand the world around us. We wanted to donate these books so that there would be a long-term effect in our community. We conducted research in order to find a varied book list to recommend to our library.

Our global goal is to spread awareness of different cultures to others all around the world. We formatted a survey and sent it to Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from other countries. The survey was an array of questions that provided insight into other cultures. We then compiled the replies into a spreadsheet and shared the information.

We believe in equality for all and want to inspire other girls to join us in our movement.
