All of the essays that I have written are connected in some way. Some connections are more obvious than the others and you will be able to see them clearly as you read. They all have a common theme of a stranger and getting to know another side of something that I didn’t know existed. Some parts of the portfolio is just normal writing, while other parts are visual and verbal. The verbal parts are easier to interpret because they speak straight to you while the writing may be a little more hidden and you may have to use context clues. I changed from story to essay in hopes of refreshing your mind into a different style of writing so that it won’t be bored of reading the same thing over and over again. I chose the styles that I showed my pieces in on purpose so that you can see everything while you read and when I reference something it is there for you to see and go back and forth between the picture and the writing or whatever it may be.
The portfolio is a work that explains me as a human and what makes me who I am. It includes a lot of my thoughts and gives a peek into how my brain works. I will admit that every piece that I put together helped me find something new about myself. I believe that I grew along with my writing and it may be visible as you read from piece to piece. I learned so much about writing and thinking while working on my portfolio such as thinking and writing have a connection and editing is different from revising. When I went back to revise my work I found myself editing it sometimes and had to hold myself back to make sure it kept the true meaning I wanted behind it. Going from writing to making a film should stand out because there were different types of media, but it was mainly writing. The verbal and visual parts of my portfolio are there so that you can take a break from the same thing every page. The big mindset that was in the back of my head while working on all of these pieces was finding a stranger or something that I didn’t know existed and trying something new that was out of my comfort zone.
Three strengths that I portray are my ability to step into someone else’s shoes to broaden my perspective on topics, my ability to use analogies and examples to explain situations, and last but not least the ability to connect the reader into my piece of work. I tried to produce an enjoyable and smooth read. There were multiple attempts to make personal connections to the reader so that they can build emotion and have strong feelings about the topic.
