Meet Evelyn Frame

A Love of Teaching

Evelyn retired this June as an elementary classroom teacher having taught for more than 30 years. She and her family arrived to the beautiful Central Coast in 1991. Evelyn volunteered both in the classroom and at school events where her daughter attended local schools. She has taught for San Luis Coastal Unified School District for 25 years both on the coast and in the city. Her classroom experience is what motivates Evelyn to seek this office. It is the knowledge gained as a classroom teacher and former SLCUSD parent that drives her dedication to ensure that student needs are foremost in every board decision.

Evelyn considers herself fortunate to have served her students and families. She is inspired when she is out in the community and runs into former students and families. As your Board Member, Evelyn will actively reach out to families for their perspective on making their neighborhood schools unique. She will seek to make School Board decisions centered on how best to serve all students and their families.

A Diverse Education Career

As a former classroom teacher, Evelyn has worked in diverse settings. She started her teaching experience in Los Angeles Unified School District where she taught inner-city school students. Evelyn then moved to the Santa-Maria Bonita School District teaching special needs students. Following her bilingual special day classroom assignment, Evelyn continued her teaching career in San Luis Coastal Unified District teaching at both Sinsheimer and Monarch Grove elementary schools, teaching a variety of grade levels. Beyond her regular classroom teaching, she spent 6 years as a Reading Intervention and English Learning Specialist, piloted and helped develop new District Curriculum, and planned and led the English Learner's Advisory Committee at her site. She also taught Latino Literacy classes for parents and families at night, served as a Teacher PTA Liaison and on the School Site Council, and served on budget, principal, and teacher interview committees.

A Vision for San Luis Coastal Unified School District

Our school district is facing difficult budgetary decisions and we must re-frame school excellence. We must focus on how to get the best value for each dollar. Although testing data is useful, we must go beyond testing data, and utilize the most effective teaching practices that help children develop into curious and engaged, life-long learners. Evelyn supports a strong student advocacy platform, stressing local parent input into the identity of each school, classroom teacher innovation and expertise front and center, and fiscal transparency to engage all community stakeholders.

Our community has high expectations for our schools. We all benefit from excellent teachers and strong community support. Evelyn will commit to transparent active engagement with parents, teachers, and staff in order to develop our collective understanding of student needs. We are a better district and a richer community when all stakeholders work together on behalf of all our students, individuals who deserve the right to be challenged and supported to grow as learners and citizens.
