Segregation- Not just in the South
Segregation- Not just in the South
These are some Deeds that I located when scanning the King County archives as part of the University of Washington Racial Restrictive Covenants Project. Sometimes, the racist language is obvious and yet often the language is imbedded within the document or within recorded CCR's that run with the land. One of these deeds is for graveyard plots. Those in the BIPOC community, particularly Black Americans not only were prohibited from owning a home in a neighborhood with White Americans, but they were also prohibited from sharing a final resting place with White Americans.
This happened in Washington State and up through the middle of the 20th century.
