Weapon and Other Skills in Slash'EM 7E6F3

The table below shows how far each character class in Slash'EM can advance in the different weapons, schools of magic and miscellaneous skills such as riding. To find out the effects of being at the different skill levels and how much practice it takes to increase your skill, see Dylan O'Donnell's Nethack spoilers on weapons and spellcasting.

In the table below:

  • G = Grand Master
  • M = Master
  • E = Expert
  • S = Skilled
  • B = Basic
  • A blank indicates that that class is restricted in that skill.

Maximum skills for the different classes

Classes which exist in Nethack mostly have the same weapon skills in Slash'EM, but there are a few minor differences. E.g. Slash'EM Priests can reach skilled in long sword so that they can use Sunsword.

Spell skills are somewhat more different. Partly this is because Slash'EM's schools of magic are different from Nethack's, but there are two other differences which are worth noting.

  • Archaeologists, Healers and Priests can reach at least basic skill in all spell schools, presumably because they have a high level of magical training. Some other classes can also learn all types of magic: Monks and Wizards, who also have this ability in vanilla Nethack, and Flame Mages and Ice Mages, who don't exist in vanilla. Necromancers, however, only know ``dark'' magic and cannot learn any spell schools except attack and matter.
  • Attack spells now include such ``dark/evil'' magic as drain life, summon undead, command undead and finger of death. Therefore good/lawful character types such as Knights and Samurai are no longer able to cast them.
