While I am not currently sure what career I may pursue, I am keeping my mind open to anything that could possibly become an option for me. Many different career fields interest me at this point in my life. I am considering entering the financial field as a possibility, the engineering field, or possibly even pursuing a trade, as I have worked in construction and plumbing for the last 4 years, under A&A Construction and ProPlumb respectively.
Since I am currently not sure which career field I am entering, I have enrolled in a vast variety of classes ranging from Financial to AP Physics, to Digital Art 2, and now the Engineering Program at the Tech Center. I feel that it is especially important for me to continue taking a broad variety of classes so that I can continue to keep opening doors for myself. I have greatly improved my reading and writing skills over my high school career, while also learning about the economy, personal finances, and business ownership in my two years on the Financial Pathway. I have also become proficient in Adobe apps such as Illustrator and Photoshop.
After school I find myself participating in sports almost year round. For 9th and 10th grade, I ran Cross Country in the Fall, Indoor Track in the Winter, and Outdoor Track in the Spring. However, starting my junior year I stepped away from Cross Country to devote more time to the gym, my studies, and my track performance. They have all taught me the importance of teamwork, and how important it is to pull your weight since the whole team needs to place well to win a meet. It is not just the success of one person that can carry the team to victory. Sports have also taught me the importance of motivation and supporting your teammates. It is extremely easy to get into a bad mindset, and that will very likely negatively affect your performance. All it takes is a simple check-in with your teammate to bring them out of that funk and get them back in the zone. I feel that track has set me up for my future career because it has shown me that if you want something, you have to work for it, and it may not always come easily. It has also shown me the importance of working in a large-scale team with people that you may not always see eye-to-eye with, yet you still share a common goal. Yes, I have already been employed for both A&A Construction and ProPlumb. Both of these jobs have taught me the importance of paying attention to the small details because they often are the most important in a make-or-break situation. They have also taught me to ask questions when I need help with something I don't understand since I will be more knowledgeable about what I am doing in the future.
After I graduate high school, I will most likely attend a four-year college, however, I am not 100% sure where that may be. I would not be opposed to entering into a trade school, possibly for plumbing since I already have some experience in that field. I would also consider taking up an apprenticeship under someone willing to share their knowledge with me and teach me the tricks of the trade.
Once I get to where I want to be in life, I still see myself being extremely active in my community. I plan on volunteering my time to work community events and also donating money to community fundraisiers for good causes. I would only have a positive influence on the community I live in, making sure of it with all my efforts going into worthwhile causes and for the good of everyone, rather than a small group of people. As for the whole world, I would like that to be true as well. Donating to large-scale charities that can make a real-world difference such as St. Jude Children's Hospital and Habitat for Humanity. I may even start a charity for problems that are more local to me, and affect my community directly. I feel that I would be a greatly positive influence in a world that is so disconnected from giving back to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
