Mission briefing
Mission briefing Your parents are going on holiday, and after a lot of negotiating, they agree you can stay home alone this time – without your grandparents coming to 'babysit' you. They give you an endless list of obvious dos and don'ts: no parties, keep the house clean and tidy, lock the doors, don't tell anyone you're home alone, eat healthily etc. But most importantly, your parents say that if you are mature enough to stay home alone, you are also responsible for solving everyday issues and problems while they're gone. Easy. That is, until the tyre of your bike goes flat, the kitchen sink starts leaking like crazy, the Wi-Fi router stops working ... You don't have the money to call in professional help, but you are determined to solve these issues – with the help of YouTube and one of your friends!
YOUR MISSION Solve the problems before your parents get home and show them you can fend for yourself!
I teach English in Dutch secondary education. Our national curriculum will be updated soon and therefore we want to find out how to use our current textbook to also meet the new exam standards.
We are now focusing on standard 9. Domain B – Language Awareness. Subdomain B1 – Language as a Phenomenon. Final Attainment Target 9: The student demonstrates insight into similarities and differences between English and other languages. This involves: - recognising and comparing features at the sound, word, and sentence level in English and other languages familiar to the student, using sources appropriate to the student’s proficiency level; analysing similarities and differences; identifying patterns.
Can you suggest a way how we can integrate addressing standard 9. in the upcoming bookchapter “Mission 5 HOME ALONE”. Provide the necessary additional procedures and learning materials (activities/content elements) in line with the textbook’s pedagogical approach and the related teacher instructions.
