What aspects concerning eSafety are important in the time of distance education?

  • Distance learning and teaching during pandemic time causes new challenges both for students and teachers. Being more active online than usual students should be aware of how to protect their personal data as well as to avoid risks stemming from the use of digital media.
What should they take into consideration?

    • credibility of websites and Internet resources they use,

    • protection of privacy - they should remember about protecting their personal data, which means not to use their full names and surnames when publishing posts or commenting on the other Internet users' posts,

    • checking privacy settings on websites of which they are registered users and changing passwords quite often,

    • responsible use of the Internet resources - it is worth to increase students' awareness in scope of safe use of the Internet resources and equip them with some basic skills,

    • potential dangers stemming from being active online (sexting, phishing, copyright infringement, inappropriate contacts).

Examples of tasks that students can do themselves to improve their skills in the field of safe use of the Internet

Check how much the Internet "knows" about you. It is worth to search for our name and surname from time to time to get to know what other Internet users will see when they look for us online.

    • type into the browser your name and surname, use question marks in order to get accurate results,

    • use image search browsers, for exapmle TinEye and find where the image appears online (to use the browser upload an image or search it by URL. You can also simply drag and drop your images to start your search).
