The 17th ETSF Young Researchers' Meeting

6th-10th September, Cagliari, Italy

What is the ETSF Young Researchers' Meeting?

The Young Researchers' Meeting (YRM) of the European Theoretical Spectroscopy Facility is an annual meeting of first stage researchers (MSc and PhD students and postdoctoral researchers) working on novel theoretical and computational approaches for studying the electronic and optical properties of materials.

The objectives of this meeting are to provide young researchers with the opportunity to share their work and acquaint themselves with state-of-the-art theoretical methods applied both in their own field and in others. Moreover, it offers scientists at the beginning of their careers the chance to network with young colleagues from different institutions, exchange knowledge and ideas and thus integrate further into the scientific community.

The ETSF YRM 2021 will be divided into five oral sessions:

  • Advanced electronic structure methods.

  • Strongly correlated systems.

  • The vibrational properties of materials.

  • The optical properties of materials.

  • Multiscale modelling.

The conference will also include a poster session, in which participants will have the opportunity to present their work in a more casual atmosphere, as well as an industry session in which researchers who have moved into industry from academia will share their experience on the possibilities outside the academic world.

Volker Heine Young Investigator Award:

On September 9th, there will be a ceremony for the Volker Heine Young Investigator Award 2021. The five finalists competing for the award will give a talk and after that, the award committee will select the winner. The event will start at 14:00 (CEST) and it will be broadcast live during the YRM.

COVID-19 update:

The conference will be held in person as long as current COVID-19 restrictions allow. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend the talks online, but we strongly encourage people to attend the conference in person if possible.
