She received her Masters in Community Counseling from University of North Carolina - Greensboro. She has over 15 years of experience in community mental health across the continuum of care. She specializes in working with adolescents and adults facing co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges with specific focus on trauma. Currently, she serves as the Chief Program Officer at the Kellin Foundation in Greensboro. She provides clinical supervision in addition to community outreach and education focused on building trauma informed agencies, systems, and communities.

2025 participant, Shakira Bowman earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Marshall University, an APA-accredited program, in 2023. She is currently a licensed Clinical Psychologist in North Carolina and works as a Staff Psychologist at the Wake Forest University Counseling Center, where she provides individual therapy, group therapy, and supervision to trainees. Trained as a generalist clinician, Shakira has experience providing care to children, adolescents, and adults. She also has specialized experience working with rural and underserved populations, which has influenced her particular interest in racial trauma and issues affecting minoritized and marginalized populations.
